We are delighted to launch our Ysgol Bae Baglan Alumni Programme this week. The programme aims to create an ever closer link and feeling of belonging for our students leaving at the end of Year 11 as they move onto their next exciting chapter. Please see the letter attached for more details. Our Alumni Database has been sent to all of our departing Year 11 Class of 2026 students for completion via Satchel One. More details on how older past pupils can join our Alumni group will be shared over the coming days.

Regional Service Children’s Summer Festival at Ysgol Bae Baglan

It was a real pleasure for us to again host the Annual Neath Port Talbot Schools Service Children’s Summer Festival at Ysgol Bae Baglan today. Another marvellous event, thoroughly enjoyed by our own service children and those from schools across the region. The pupils participated in a range of fantastic activities, provided by Forces Fitness, Bushcraft, Bulldogs and a rugby activity provided by Apollo Teaching. We are extremely grateful to all our visitors, including the High Sheriff of West Glamorgan, The Mayor and Mayoress and Mrs Julie Stapleton, Service Children’s Lead for the Local Authority.

A wonderful day with excellent weather in a lovely setting. Special mention to our fabulous pupils for supporting the day, to Mrs Jayne Lewis and to our outstanding Service Children’s Champion, Mrs Abby Challenger. As a proud, truly inclusive school, our service children having a strong voice across our school community is extremely important to us. With military veterans on our staff, along with wives and partners of serving members of the Army, Royal Air Force and Royal Navy, we are ideally placed to provide relevant, meaningful support. We are also very proud of our close connections with the Local Veteran’s Group and of our status as a Gold Award School in partnership with Supporting Service Children in Education (Cymru). We eagerly anticipate continuing to work closely with all of our partner schools and organisations to ensure an ever stronger regional network for service children and their families.

Diwrnod Cymraeg a Lles/Welsh and Wellbeing Day Dydd Mercher 15 Gorffennaf/Wednesday 15th July

Pupils can wear a Welsh/ red/ green top with their School Uniform or PE kit.

Free music and activities.

There will be a few stalls with food and games for which pupils will require cash, please bring coins/change if possible (no parentpay/cards). Any funds raised will support school projects/ departments.

Please bring water bottle, hats and suncream, weather permitting pupils will be outdoors from 12pm to the end of the school day. Pupils will purchase their lunch as normal from the canteen before the events begin.

DIWRNOD PONTIO BLWYDDYN 7 NEWYDD/NEW YEAR 7 TRANSITION DAY

We are really looking forward to welcoming our new Year 7 cohort for their final transition day with us on Thursday 9th July 2026. Our day runs from 0830-1430hrs, you will have 5 fun taster lessons with our fabulous staff and leave feeling comfortable that you can find your way around your new school.

Year 6 into Year 7 Parents/Carers Meeting Wednesday 8th July 2026

A reminder that we are holding a welcome meeting for parents/carers of our September 2026 Year 7 intake pupils this Wednesday, 8th July, at 6pm in the Michael Sheen Theatre. Please arrive from 5:45pm onwards, parking is available at the front and rear of school. Entry from the rear car park is via the Quad Area into the Atrium. Our wonderful pupils will be there to meet you at both entry points.

Year 11 Celebration Evening

The Year 11 Celebration Evening will proceed as planned this evening. Pupils are asked to arrive at school from 5:00pm for photographs, with transport departing promptly at 6:00pm. The expected return time is approximately 10:45pm, with drop-off at the rear school car park.

Given the current high temperatures, pupils are advised to remain well-hydrated and to dress appropriately for the weather and their comfort.

Extreme Weather Update

23/6 13:30pm You will be aware that the Met Office has issued a Red Warning for Extreme Heat covering Port Talbot and the surrounding areas over the next few days. Forecast temperatures are expected to exceed 37°C in the shade, with significantly higher temperatures possible in direct sunlight.

We have been monitoring the situation closely and have considered a range of measures to reduce the risks associated with these exceptional conditions. Following this assessment, we have taken the decision to close the school building on Wednesday and Thursday and move to online learning for all year groups.

Pupils will be expected to engage with online learning from home. Secondary phase teachers will set work on Satchel and will be available during lesson times to provide support through Teams. Primary phase pupils will receive information about learning arrangements through DoJo.

This approach will allow pupils to continue their learning while remaining safe during the period of extreme heat.

Transition activities scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday have been postponed and will be rearranged with our partner primary schools. Work experience placements will continue where appropriate, as employers will have undertaken their own risk assessments and implemented any necessary control measures.

At present, the Year 11 Prom will go ahead as planned. Should this position change, we will contact families directly.

Diwrnod Pontio Blwyddyn 5/Year 5 Transition Day

What an absolute pleasure for us to host Year 5 pupils from across the Ysgol Bae Baglan Cluster today. 310 pupils enjoyed a morning of sport and team building activities in the sun; followed by a delicious lunch in our Glyndwr Canteen. It was lovely to meet them and welcome them to their future secondary school. Diolch yn fawr to our Year 7, 8, 9 and 11 Pupil Leaders who were once again outstanding role models, instantly creating a sense of belonging for our visitors.

We look forward to seeing you again on 4 September 2026, when you are in Year 6 for our Neath Port Talbot Music Service Concert.

Duke of Edinburgh Award Bronze Group

Congratulations to our Year 9 Bronze Award Duke of Edinburgh Group who have successfully completed their qualifying expedition in the Gower today! They faced challenging weather conditions over the last 2 days but worked well as a team and dealt well with the conditions, showing great resilience. They demonstrated strong navigation and camp craft skills over the two days. Da iawn bawb! #youthwithoutlimits

Change to the School Day – Secondary Phase

Dear Parents and Carers,
Following the completion of the statutory consultation process, the Governing Body has now considered the consultation responses and operational considerations relating to the proposed change to the secondary phase school day from September 2026. Having considered the feedback received from pupils, parents and staff, the Governing Body has approved the proposed change to the secondary phase school day from September 2026. The end of the Secondary Phase school day will now be 2:45pm.


The revised arrangements will begin from September 2026. The start of the school day and overall curriculum learning time will remain unchanged.

No changes are being made to the primary phase school day.

During the consultation process, several practical considerations were raised regarding lunchtime
arrangements, vulnerable pupils, traffic flow and families with children across both phases of the school.
These issues will now form part of the implementation planning for September.
This includes:
 continued support arrangements for vulnerable pupils;
 monitoring of lunchtime and catering arrangements;
 discussions with the Local Authority regarding school transport;
 supervision arrangements for pupils waiting for siblings at the end of the primary phase school day.
