Changes to GCSE 2021

In response to the temporary closure of schools and colleges in March 2020, the Welsh Government and Qualifications Wales announced that qualifications will be adapted for assessment in 2021, in order to mitigate lost teaching and learning time and to assist schools and colleges in complying with social distancing guidelines.
As part of the process, teachers from across Wales have also been consulted and their feedback has been incorporated wherever possible, whilst ensuring that WJEC maintain the validity of their qualifications for all  learners. For teachers delivering Vocational Qualifications, there has also been an additional consultation exercise undertaken by Ofqual – further information on the outcomes will be shared in due course.
WJEC are confident that the adaptations they have made to their qualifications provide the fairest possible solution for learners in Wales in these exceptional circumstances.
