End of Term Letter

Dear Parent/Guardian,

As we approach the summer holiday, there are a couple of points I would like to bring to your attention and ask for your co-operation:

Uniform

The school has a Uniform Policy which can be viewed on the website. I would like to reiterate that:

  • Pupils in Year 7-11 are not allowed to wear jeans, skinny trousers, leggings or tracksuit bottoms to school.
  • Jewellery is not allowed in school however a watch and a single set of stud earrings are permitted. No facial piercings are allowed.
  • We do not permit extremes of fashion in students’ hairstyles. Added hair colours must be natural and subtle. Hair braiding and patterns cut into hair or eyebrows are not acceptable.

If you are concerned about whether a particular item/style is suitable then you should contact the school for advice before buying or sending your child to school.

Attendance and Punctuality

Your assistance in ensuring that your children attend school regularly and are punctual are greatly appreciated. The Welsh Government target for attendance is 95%. School begins at 8.30 a.m. and the expectation is that pupils are at their classes by this time.

Once again, thank you for your continued support.

Yours faithfully,

R E Rees (Mr)

Deputy HeadteacherLetter to parents – July 19

Year 11 Prom. Letter to parents.

Dear Parent or Carer,

We look forward to welcoming those pupils attending Prom on Monday 1st July 2019.

Pupils should arrive to Ysgol Bae Baglan from 5:45pm onwards on Monday 1st July, buses will be leaving from the front of the school at 6:30pm to take pupils to Manor Park.

Please accept my apologies that the pupils’ tickets have a different time on them.  This was an error on my part.  We look forward to welcoming you all at YBB from 5:45pm.

Parents and friends are welcome to join Year 11 pupils for photo opportunities at Ysgol Bae Baglan between 5:45pm and 6:30pm.  Please respect our neighbours by parking in the rear car park or designated bays. We kindly ask that no parents attend Manor Park.

Can pupils please remember that they will need to bring with them their money or cheques for official prom photographs that are ordered directly on the night.  Portraits cost £10 each, payable on the night by cash or cheque made payable to: Always & Forever.

Buses will return pupils to the rear of Ysgol Bae Baglan between 10:50pm and 11pm.

We hope that all pupils will have an amazing evening and wish them all the best in their futures.

Yours faithfully,

Mr. D. Grounds

Leavers Assembly.

Year 11 will have their leavers assembly in the main hall next Friday, 22nd June between 09-10:30. Unfortunately they will not be allowed around school afterwards as teachers and other learners have lessons.

Year 9 National Test Update

This Thursday, Year 9 will be involved in a Royal Shakespeare Company live broadcast of Macbeth which unfortunately clashes with the National Numeracy Procedural Test for pupils in classes 94A, 4B, 5A and 5B. The pupils in these classes will now sit the test on Friday April 27th at 11:10am.

Uunfortunately this also clashes with the National Numeracy Reasoning Test for pupils in classes 91A, 1B, 2A, 2B, 3A and 3B. The pupils in these classes will now sit the test on Wednesday May 2nd during their normal timetabled Mathematics lesson.

Transport and parking at YBB

We are currently reviewing parking provision at Ysgol Bae Baglan to ensure that our pupils are safe coming onto and leaving the school site. We have a large number of pupils who are taxied to school from across the authority and need to ensure the smooth operation of pick up and set down times. Unfortunately we still have a very small minority of parents that park on double yellow lines at the front and rear of the building and continue to reinforce the inappropriateness of this.

Like all schools we do not provide parking for parents and want to encourage healthier ways for our pupils to get to school. Our pupils benefit from an agreement with local bus companies that they can use this provision with a YBB ticket and we have got ample, and well used, cycle and scooter storage on site. From this week we are also trialling a walking bus for lower school pupils and hope that this encourages as many parents and pupils as possible to think about the school journey.

Once final decisions have been agreed on future transport plans we will ensure we communicate this to all parents and carers. During this period we will not be issuing any parking passes as this is a central focus for changes.
